Man charged with multiple sex crimes against child

ALBEMARLE - Deputies arrested an Albemarle man they say engaged in sex crimes with a child.

The Stanly County Sheriff's Office arrested 59-year-old Ronnie Green Furr of Pennington Road on Thursday.

He's been charged with two counts of First Degree Forcible Sex Offenses with a Child, two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child and one count of  Crimes Against Nature.

Cold, wet weekend in store for area, snow in mountains

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A weak front has moved into the area, meaning chillier temperatures in a mix of rain, snow and sunshine for the next week.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg say temperatures will peak in the 40s over the weekend, with lows in the 20s before reaching 50 again on Monday.

A slight chance of a rain showers Friday night will lead to a sunny and breezy Saturday in Charlotte.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Watauga and Ashe counties in the high country remains in effect from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Two to four inches is expected to fall over the weekend with wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

Slippery road conditions and limited visibility can be expected.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Tax season is here and making it easy for taxpayers to understand and file their taxes is a top priority for the North Carolina Department of Revenue.  Providing the correct information and remembering a few simple tips will help ensure you have an error-free tax return that can be processed quickly and correctly.

 

NCDOR offers the following easy tips and recommendations as you prepare your taxes this year.

1. Extended filing date- Individual income taxpayers will have until April 17, 2012, to file returns, extensions and payments normally due on April 15. The extension is to accommodate Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in the District of Columbia. Get more details on the extension.

2 arrested, 1 sought in drive-by shooting, police say

ALBEMARLE - Police are still searching for a man they say took part in a drive-by shooting early Monday morning.

Two people were inside a home on Long Street just before 4 a.m. when someone shot out the front window of the house, Albemarle Police Chief William Halliburton said.

Police said one of the victims inside the home had received a call from James Kevin Byrd around 3:12 a.m.
