Major wreck depletes area blood supply, donors needed

Major wreck depletes area blood supply, donors needed

American Red Cross officials say our area is experiencing a blood shortage after a serious wreck in the Asheville area depleted the blood supply.

The wreck happened Wednesday night when a tractor trailer slammed head on into a church van, sending more than a dozen people, including several children, to the hospital.

Next to time, blood can be the most important thing for a paramedic. And not just any type, but O negative - the universal type that can help any patient.

The supply of O negative blood in the Asheville area was short to begin with, and with so many crash victims in need of blood, officials had to pull from other regions, including Charlotte.

Looking to get into the ACC Championship game? Don't get burned with fake tickets!

Looking to get into the ACC Championship game? Don't get burned with fake tickets!

The ACC championship game is the hottest ticket in town this week. With both Clemson and Virginia Tech being in close proximity to Charlotte, the rivalry is intense, especially for tickets.

The BBB has advice for how you can get into the game, without getting burned by fake tickets.

People are most likely to be scammed when they buy tickets from individuals outside on the street, or through online auctions, classifieds and bulletin boards.

“The most common way football fans are getting burned is by either paying for counterfeit tickets or paying in advance for tickets that never arrive,” said BBB President Tom Bartholomy.

Churches come back stronger a week after vandalism

ANSON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - There were few tell-tell signs Sunday to let people know anything even happened at Cedar Hill AME Zion Church besides boarded up windows and fresh paint covering graffiti.

Last Monday the scene was totally different. The church was surrounded by police tape. Words of hate scrawled in red and green paint covered walls and doors. The inside in disarray with human waste covering the alter.

But thanks to the help of the community - more than 50 folks - working throughout the week, Sunday services went on as scheduled.

Pastor Renee Bethea says what's come out of all this negativity is love.

"I felt like God threw me a curve ball but he also sent a hedge around me because he sent me people that were willing to work and the community came together and looking back it was just a couple of hours of tragedy," Bethea said.
