Suffering allergy symptoms a little early?

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - It may not be spring, but the warm weather has triggered allergy symptoms for many in our area, just ask Susan Ballard what her 11 year old daughter is going through.

"My daughter has climate variant asthma, "Ballard told WBTV.  "When there's a variance in the weather she deals with a lot of coughing, especially when she's outside playing, jumping on the trampoline, playing softball things of that nature."

Lots of folks are dealing with now, and for many, it's a few weeks ahead of schedule.

"Yeah, I think it is hitting early this year," Ballard added

"We're starting to see a little bit of the allergy symptoms coming in," said Kyle Yoder at Moose Pharmacy.  But along with some early allergy sufferers, Moose is seeing lots of folks with similar symptoms. "It may seem like allergy symptoms because you still have all the sinus congestion, but a lot of that is related to viral sinus infections going around the area."

There are lots of over the counter drugs that can help, some don't make you drowsy. Others, like Benadryl will help you sleep.  Yoder recommends talking with a pharmacist to determine which remedy may be best.

Higher temperatures are producing buds on trees and kick starting the pollen process. That's what leaves that yellow film on your car, and while Sam's Car Wash was busy today, it was more just getting off the dirt than any early sign of pollen.

"No, not at all, it will still be another good month before we start to get it coming off these cars," said manager Andrew Mayson.
